Lake Central Hosts 44th Annual Bob Emerick Harvest Classic, Orueta Repeats as Champion The Lake Central wrestling program welcomed a strong field of competition on Saturday as it hosted the 44th Annual Bob Emerick Harvest Classic, a long-standing early-season staple that drew 16 teams—15 from Indiana and one from Illinois. The event once again showcased high-level talent from across the region. Lake Central battled throughout the day and earned a 7th-place team finish, highlighted by several standout individual performances. At 113 pounds, Cruz Orueta captured his second consecutive Harvest Classic title, solidifying himself as one of the premier lightweights in the area. His repeat championship was one of the day's top storylines and a bright spot for the LC lineup. There are only 9, four-time winners in the history of the event. At 126, Luke Nied advanced to the championship match, finishing as the runner-up after an impressive run through the bracket. Heavyweight Jake Leudtke powered his way to a 3rd-place finish, giving LC a strong showing in the upper weights. Lake Central also picked up key placements throughout the middle of the lineup. Aidan Witry earned 4th at 132. Gabe Ruano secured 5th at 120, while Caine Renko (106), Alex Kucharz (138), and David Koscielski (144) each wrestled their way to 6th-place finishes. With the Harvest Classic now behind them, the Indians shift their focus to an important stretch of competition. Lake Central will travel to Valparaiso on Wednesday with hopes of improving to 2-0 in the Duneland Athletic Conference, before turning their attention to the always-competitive Traicoff Invitational this coming weekend.
