Orueta and Luedtke Win Sectionals/Rudzivicius Turns in DAC Record Swim/Boys' Hoops Drops Home Game vs Chesterton/Gymnastics Finishes 2nd at Plymouth Invite

LC Advances all 14 Wrestlers to Regionals and Earns 2nd Place Team Finish Lake Central wrestled in the IHSAA Sectional hosted by East Chicago on Saturday and turned in a dynamite performance. Lake Central took 2nd in the team race falling short on the Merrillville Pirates. All 14 weight classes at the Hobart Regional next Saturday with have an LC wrestler present. Cruz Orueta and Jake Luedtke were individual sectional champions for LC. The top 4 in each weight class advanced: 106--James Matlon 3rd place overall 150--Nico Rivera 3rd place overall 113--CRUZ ORUETA CHAMPION 157--Christopher Wartman 3rd place overall 120--Gabe Ruanzo 3rd place overall 165--Cameron Reed 2nd place overall 126--Luke Nied 2nd place overall 175--Yomaniel Velazquez Perez 2nd place overall 132--Aidan Witry 2nd place overall 190--Owen Pieters 3rd place overall 138--Alexander Kucharz 3rd place overall 215--Matt Wasiak 4th place overall 144--David Koscielski 2nd place overall 285--JAKE LUEDTKE CHAMPION Full Results: https://www.ihsaa.org/sites/default/files/documents/2025-26%20BWR%20East%20Chicago%20Sectional.pdf Boys' Swimming & Diving Turns in Several Championship Swims Lake Central hosted the Boys' Duneland Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships on Saturday. From the start it was a 4-horse race among the Indians, the Chesterton Trojans, the Valparaiso Vikings and the Crown Point Bulldogs. Lake Central found itself in second place after the completion of the 12 swimming events; the Indians trailed Valparaiso 373-372. Once the diving results came in Chesterton and Valparaiso tied for 1st and 2nd place. Crown Point lead-frogged LC to finish 3rd, and Lake Central finished in 4th. The Indians swam exceptionally and are poised to make some noise in the IHSAA Sectional they'll host in a few weeks. Kajus Rudzivicius had an incredible day for LC: Rudzivicius broke the DAC record in the 50M with his 20.65 time. This also is the new LC boys' record. In addition to winning the 50, Rudzivicius also was the individual 100M Champion. His teammate Jacob Miczek finished 3rd in the 100. LC won the 200 Free Relay and finished 2nd in the 400 Free Relay. Ben Billingsley turned in a championship swim in the 500 Free and Brody Cailles finished 8th to score. The Indians placed 3 on the podium in the 200 Free: Billingsley 2nd, Miczek 5th, and Chyler Schuster 7th. Cameron Mosley (5th) and Cailles (7th) scored for LC in the 100M Breaststroke. Tim Hampton (3rd) and Mosley (6th) reached the podium in the 200IM. In the 100 fly, Hampton earned a 4th place finish and Deon Stafford finished in 8th. Gymnastics Finishes 2nd in the 11 Team Plymouth Invitational Field Gymnastics has found its rhythm the last few days and posted its second consecutive team score over 104 points to finish in 2nd place at Plymouth. The Indians posted a 104.45, which was second to Elkhart's 104.6, and the Indians did this without competing anyone in the All-Around. Below are the individual highlights for LC: Vault--Gabby Robbins 7th, Emily Bishop 12th, Sophia Rodriguez 14th Uneven Bars--Gabi Arroyo 5th, Robbins 8th, Rodriguez 9th, Kailynn Paat 11th Balance Beam--Arroyo 4th (9.55), Rodriguez 9th, Paat 13th Floor Exercise--Arroyo 2nd, Paat 5th, Robbins 10th Lake Central will compete in a DAC triangular today at Portage against Portage and Michigan City. Basketball Drops Competitive Match-Up with Chesterton The Tribe hosted DAC foe Chesterton on Friday on AAU night. LC fell 47-35. The Indians are now 9-6 overall and 1-3 in the DAC after hitting a mid-season skid. Noah Enyeart poured in a game high 16 points Friday, with a 14 point 2nd half effort. Jakob Billmeyer added 8 and Cooper Kroncke 6. David Aguilera led LC in rebounding with 5; Aguilera also led the Indians with 3 steal. Lake Central will look to right the ship on Thursday against the Merrillville Pirates.
