The Lake Central High School girls’ swimming team wrapped up an outstanding season at the IHSAA State Finals, competing against the very best athletes in Indiana. Leading the way for the Indians was standout freshman Abigail Campbell, who delivered an impressive performance on the state’s biggest stage. Campbell placed 9th in the 200-yard Individual Medley, earning a top-10 finish in a loaded field. She followed that effort with a 10th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, once again proving she belongs among Indiana’s elite swimmers. Campbell also teamed up with Kaylie Schaffenberger, Taylor Jones, and Julene Haigh in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet battled through a highly competitive field to secure an 18th-place finish. As a team, the Indians finished 25th overall at the state finals — an impressive accomplishment and the third-best finish among Northwest Indiana schools. The future is bright for the Lady Indian swimmers. With a freshman leading the charge and valuable state experience gained across the board, the future of Lake Central girls’ swimming looks incredibly bright. Congratulations to Abigail and the entire team on a tremendous season and a memorable showing at state!
