V/JV Softball Start the Season with a Bang

The Lake Central softball teams traveled to Munster yesterday evening to open their campaigns. The varsity team jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 1 inning of play and cruised to an 8-0 victory. Maddie Such was the pitcher of record striking out 12 over four innings of work: Such tossed the first two innings and the final two innings. Freshman, Colbie Tressel pitched a scoreless third innings, and sophomore, Jada Lewis struck out 3 over two innings of work. The Indians staff combined for 16Ks, only allowing 4 hits. MaKayla Van Vossen led off the game with a homerun: She added a pair of hits and runs. Sofia Beals had a two hits, including a 3-run HR. Madi Wainright, Tegan Tripp, Such, and Kaitlyn Streiler all had multi-hit games. Tripp added 2 runs batted in. The Indians combined for 15 hits (3 going for extra bases). The JV also played at Munster. LC struck first in this one, scoring 2 in the top of the 1st. Munster responded with a run of their own in the bottom half. LC broke the game open in the 4th with a 6-run inning and went on to win 15-4. The Indians combined for 16 hits. Kensie Johnson, Addy Mikolanis, Kayla Scheuneman, Addy Godoy, and Parker Reddick all had two hits. Ava DeNormandie led the hit parade with 3 hits. Mikolanis drove in 5 runs and earned the complete game victory on the mound, striking out 9. The JV was slated to play at Hanover Central tomorrow but that game has been postponed (date TBD).
