Tennis #1 Doubles Advances to Culver Katie Pepkowski and Lyla Hurey took care of business in swift action last night in the Sectional quarterfinals at Crown Points. Pepkowski and Hurey defeated the doubles team from Hanover Central in straight sets. They won commandingly 6-2 in the first set. The second set took a bit more effort. LC fell behind 2-1, before cruising to a 6-4 victory. The girls will play the host Culver in the semi-final match Saturday at Culver. Crown Point awaits the winner in the finals, which will be played following the semi-finals. Baseball Run-Rules Munster in Sectional Quarters The varsity baseball team fell behind 3-0 after 1 inning of play and squandered an opportunity for runs in the second due to baserunning miscues. However, LC rallied with two huge innings putting up a 5-spot in the 3rd and 8-spot in the 5th to call game. The Indians won 13-3 and advanced to play Hammond Morton on Friday night in the Sectional semi-final. Owen Kopercinski settled in on the mound after allowing 5 hits and 3 runs through the first two innings. He went on to strike out 4 and didn't allow a hit after the 2nd to earn the win. The Indians chased the Munster ace after 4 1/3 innings: LC charged him with 9 earned runs on 10 hits. The Indians had 12 hits, and all but one starter, collected a hit. Tyler Thuftedal pounded two doubles and drove in a run. Brayden Walls slugged a monster, 3-run homerun in the decisive 5th inning. Jake Forystek led LC with 3 hits and 3 runs.
