Softball, Led by Freshman Pitching, Knock Down #2 CP The number 1 and 2 teams in Indiana, unfortunately, had to square off in the IHSAA Sectional round on Friday evening; however, fortunately, the good guys prevailed in front of a packed house. Freshman pitchers Colbie Tressel and Addy Mikolanis led LC to a 3-1 victory. Tressel got the start and gave the Indians 2 strong innings, allowing just one run. Mikolanis came on in relief and dominated the Bulldog hitters. She allowed just two hits over 5 to earn the win and lead LC to a title. Tegan Tripp's hot postseason continued as she drove in 2 runs on a single to CF and a solo HR. Madi Wainright added an RBI and a double. The Indians will travel to Hobart tonight chasing a Regional Championship and a spot in the final eight. Gametime is 5 PM. Baseball Defeats State Ranked #2 CP to Earn a Sectional Title Last year at Lake Central the top ranked Crown Point Bulldogs defeated Lake Central in a championship showdown. This year the script was flipped and Lake Central defeated the Bulldogs on their own field 4-3. Marc Passo tossed 3 1/3 innings of 3 run baseball before turning it over to sophomore, Owen Kopercinski. Kopercinski shined tossing 3 2/3 innings of 1-hit baseball. He was the winning pitcher. Keegan O'Bryan led the offense with 3 hits and 2 runs scored; O'Bryan smoked a ground rule double to right field to plate the go-ahead run for LC. Parker Robinson had 2 hits and an RBI for the Indians. LC will play the Goshen Redhawks on Saturday. The location and time is still TBD by the IHSAA. Regional location possibilities include: La Porte, South Bend (Four Winds Field), NorthWood, Oak Hill, Lafayette Jeff (Loeb Stadium), Logansport, FW Carroll, and Kokomo. The most likely options seem La Porte or South Bend. #1 Double Advances and Earns Sectional Championship The #1 doubles team of Lyla Hurey and Katelyn Pepkowski had to travel to Culver on Saturday and win two double matches to advance to the Regional round at North Central HS. They did just that defeating the host Culver team 6-4, 2-6, and 6-3 to advance to the finals where they faced off against Crown Point. Hurey and Pepkowski swept the Bulldogs winning 6-1 and 6-3 cementing their place in the Regional. The Indians earned a semi-final bye and will play for the Championship at 1 PM CST against the winner of North Newton and McCutcheon.
