Track & Field Has Record Setting Day at State Finals--#1 Doubles are Regional Champs--Baseball Regional Champs

On Friday, the girls' track and field state qualifiers competed in the IHSAA State Finals at North Central High School in Indianapolis. The girls performed triumphantly with an impressive 8th place team finish and 20 points. Macey Thompson earned a place on the medal podium in the 800 as she finished in 8th place with a time of 2:11.90. She followed up that with an even better finish in the 1600. Thompson earned a 5th place finish in a time of 4:58.43. In the 3200, sophomore Lana Bruggeman turned in an impressive 8th place podium finish. Bruggeman cruised a 10:33.92 (school record). The 4X800 relay team broke a school record and finished in 5th place. The relay consisted of Macey Thompson, Chloe Neal, Lana Bruggeman, and Brynn Hayes; They ran a 9:15.76. In the field events, Emma Reyes was dynamite finishing in 15th in the shot with a 39'6" throw. Reyes made the podium in the discus and finished in 4th place overall with a 143'1" throw. The Lady Indians represented Lake Central strongly at state and we couldn't be prouder of the efforts of the athletes and coaches! Hurey and Pepkowski made quick work of the 17-2 team from McCutcheon winning in straight sets 6-1/6-4. These young ladies advance to the IHSAA State Finals as a number 1 double team. LC started strongly and played one of their best games of the season, cruising to a 11-1, 6-inning victory. The sophomore Owen Kopercinski has turned into the staff's ace and he didn't disappoint. Kopercinski fired a complete game, striking out 8 and allowing only 6 hits. LC's offense was stout, ripping 18 hits. Keegan O'Bryan had 3 hits; Brayden Walls was 2-2; Jake Forystek had 3 hits; Austin Brower led LC with 4 hits; and Tyler Thuftedal also had 2 hits. The Indians advance to the final eight and will play Zionsville in the Semi-State semi-final Saturday morning at Gary Railcats Stadium. On Saturday, the boys' track and field state qualifiers competed in the IHSAA State Finals at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Lucca Neves broke the school record in the 3200 meter run; he finished 11th and ran a 9:13.82. Ben Perschon just missed the school record in the mile. He ran a 4:17.55 and finished in 14th. Jacob White-Hutsler and Aaron O'Neill just missed the finals in the 200 and hurdles respectively. The 4X1 finished in 24th and the 4X4 finished in 27th.
