Lake Central Captures Third State Baseball Championship, Repeats as State Champions FROM INDIANAPOLIS: The dynasty continues. Lake Central Baseball secured its third IHSAA Class 4A State Championship and second state title in three years on Saturday at Victory Field, defeating Bloomington South 4-0 in a dominant performance that showcased the Indians' pitching, defense, and timely hitting. The championship victory adds another remarkable chapter to one of Indiana's premier baseball programs and further cements the legacy of Hall of Fame head coach Mike Swartzentruber. The state title is the fourth of Swartzentruber's illustrious coaching career, having previously won two state championships at North Posey High School before guiding Lake Central to his second crown. Coach Swartzentruber is the only coach in Indiana to have won state titles at different schools. The Indians were led by a memorable performance from sophomore ace Owen Kopercinski. Taking the mound on the state's biggest stage, Kopercinski was sensational, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out six Bloomington South batters. Lake Central's offense provided all the support Kopercinski would need. Parker Robinson paced the Indians at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Andrew Brower also came through in key situations, driving in two runs to account for the remainder of the Indians' scoring. Brayden Walls continued his outstanding postseason with a two-hit performance, while Keegan O'Bryan and Isaac Ochoa each crossed the plate to score runs in the championship victory. Beyond the action on the field, Lake Central celebrated another special honor. Strength and conditioning coach and educator Tom Halterman was recognized as the IHSAA Champion Educator for the state championship game. The award honors educators who have made a lasting impact on student-athletes through their dedication, leadership, and commitment to education. Halterman's selection reflects the tremendous influence he has had on countless Lake Central students and athletes throughout his career. The championship caps another extraordinary season for the Indians and further strengthens Lake Central's reputation as one of Indiana's elite baseball programs. For the second time in three years, Lake Central stands alone at the top of Indiana high school baseball. Congratulations to the players and coaches!
