Softball Keeps Rollin'

Junior Varsity--Lake Central 11 Crown Point 1 The Indians defeated the rival Bulldogs in convincing fashion. Olivia Hurubean allowed just 2 hits in the 5 inning game. Sofia Beals added 2 hits, and Teagan Tripp and Abigail Grenchik had 2 RBIs a piece. The Indians host Merrillville today. Varsity--Lake Central Classic The Indians had a great day on Saturday going 3-0 in their own classic. In game 1 LC got off to a hot start scoring 9 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Hebron 10-0. The Indians bat were cooled after the first. Taylor Schafer added a homerun and drove in 3 and Maddie Wainright provided 2 RBIs. Maddie Such tossed 5 innings of 2 hit ball striking out 10. The second game of the day featured the Indians vs Franklin Central. LC won 10-0 in a run-rule shortened game. Sofia Calderaro struck out 11 and just allowed 2 hits against a very talented Franklin Central lineup. Offensively Izzy Calinski had 3 hits (2B/3B/HR) and 4 RBIs, and Lexi Iwema went 3-3 with 2 RBIs and a homer. Jolie Adams also doubled and drove in 3. The days' final game was highly anticipated against Illinois power Lincoln-Way Central and it didn't disappoint. Against one of the nation's top pitchers LC jumped ahead with 3 quick runs in the second. That's all they would get in route to a 3-2 victory to avenge last season's loss. Once again Calderaro was the winning pitcher striking out 8. Maddie Such earned the save in a one-inning relief stint. Kate Renschen added 2 hits and drove in 2. Lake Central 4 Crown Point 2 The Indians moved to 12-0 and are currently ranked 1st in Indiana and top 25 nationally (new polls release later today). Calderaro was again the winning pitcher tossing 4 innings of scoreless softball. Lexi Iwema hit a towering HR to right-center and MaKayla Van Vossen and Jolie Adams each drove in a run in the victory.
