They boys' volleyball team traveled to face the Munster Mustangs last night. LC was coming off of a close 3-2 victory over rival Crown Point. After a slow start, the Indians raced to victory defeating the Mustangs 3 sets to 1. The JV also defeated the Mustangs in straight sets. Since the O'Rama the Indians have gone 2-0 in regular season matches and will host the Portage Indians on Thursday and Morgan Township on Saturday. Highlights from the Munster match: Keri Conrath -- 11 kills Danny Smith -- 9 kills and 15 digs Teo Olmstead -- 8 kills Brady Cook -- 19 assists Nelko Dragulski --15 assists Juan Flores -- 14 digs Coming off of the 2024 4A State Championship season, Lake Central opened up with the Lowell Red Devils and cruised to a 10-0 victory. Luke O'Keefe was the winning pitcher for the Indians throwing 2 innings of middle relief. He allowed just 2 hits and struck out 3. Josh Flores started the game on the mound and was limited to 3 innings: Lowell managed just one hit and 4 walks off of Flores in his 3 scoreless. He struck out 5 Red Devils. Grant Mercer tossed the final 1-2-3 frame in the run-rule shortened game. Offensively; Jake Figg, Drew Kosteba, and Dylan Hein each had 2 hits. Andrew Brower tripled and drove in 2 in his pinch hit plate appearance. Hein and Ryder Fernandez each went deep for Lake Central. The Indians will travel to Center Grove to take on state ranked Center Grove and Homestead on Saturday. Lake Central also hosted the Munster Mustangs in varsity and junior varsity softball last night. Both teams won their openers 5-0 in games that were a lot closer than the scores reflect. The Indians struck fast in the varsity contest on a 2-out, 2-strike, 2-run single by Taylor Schafer. This was promptly followed by a 2-run HR off the bat of Tegan Tripp. The Indians were able to muster one run in the second on an RBI by Makayla Van Vossen (2 hits) and that was it for their scoring. Maddie Such was dynamic on the mound allowing just 3 hits and striking out 14 in the complete game effort. LC will host state ranked number 2 Penn on Thursday. The Indians are currently 4th in the polls. Ava DeNormandie tossed a complete game 6-hitter striking out 11 to earn the win. Aubrey Richardson led the way on offense with 3 hits and 2 batted in. Piper Urbanski added 2 hits and a triple. LC will host Crown Point today in JV softball. Both softball box scores are attached.
