Softball and Volleyball Keep Rollin' (4/3 Update)

The boys' volleyball team hosted the Portage Indians last night in their second conference game of the season. Coming off of a 3-2 hard fought victory over Crown Point, the boys were sharp from the get go. Lake Central swept Portage in consecutive sets. The leaders for the Indians last night: Christian Czarnik- 13 kills Danny Smith- 8 kills Nelko Dragulski- 13 assists Brady Cook- 11 assists Juan Flores- 15 digs The junior varsity and varsity softball teams hosted softball state power Penn last night. Both teams cruised to victory: The varsity team defeated state ranked #2 Penn by a score of 18-0. The junior varsity team won 7-1. Both teams moved to 2-0 on the young season with quality wins over quality opponents. In the junior varsity game, Sophia Cembala pitched around 4 walks and 3 hits to allow just one run over four innings and earn the win; she also fanned 5. Ava DeNormandie tossed three scoreless in relief, striking out 5 and allowing 3 hits. Offensively, LC had 12 hits, and they were led by 4 off the bat of Ava Musch (2 RBIs). Emma Wilkins (2-2B and 3 RBIs), Piper Urbanski, Soleil Snyder, and Reagan Equihua all had 2 hits. In the varsity game, MaKayla Van Vossen pounded a 2-run HR in the first inning and the Indians never looked back. They ripped 14 hits and drew 5 free passes to roll to victory. Lexi Iwema led the way with 3 hits and 4 RBIs, including a double and a homer. Kate Renschen, Van Vossen (3 RBIs), and Taylor Schafer (3 RBIs) all had multiple hit days. Madi Wainwright added a 2-RBI double. Maddie Such moved to 2-0 on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 8 in four innings of work. Freshman Jada Lewis tossed a scoreless fifth the Indians. Both the JV and V are back in action on Monday against Lowell. Box scores for the JV/V games are attached.
