It was a busy night for Lake Central athletics: The varsity and junior varsity girls' teams were in action at home against Andrean, junior varsity and varsity softball hosted rival Crown Point, and the junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams traveled to Chesterton. JV Lake Central 5 Andrean 0 V/JV Volleyball at Chesterton: In a crazy battle for the top of DAC, the Lake Central Boys Volleyball won a tough 3-1 match last night against Chesterton. After being blown out in the 3rd set the Indians managed to hang to win the 4th set 26-24. The JV lost 2 sets to 0. LC sits alone on top of the DAC at 7-0 in the conference. Set 1: 25-19 Set 2: 25-23 Set 3: 25-12 Set 4: 26-24 The Indians were led by Danny Smith with 18 kills, Teo Olmstead with 8 kills, Brady Cook had 21 assists, Nelko Dragulski had 15 assists, and Juan Flores had 17 digs The Indians are back on the road tonight at Valparaiso. JV Softball: Crown Point 6 Lake Central 5 Varsity Softball: Lake Central 4 Crown Point 3 The JV softball team lost their first game of the season to Crown Point last night after leading 5-2 heading into the fifth. Sophia Cembala was the pitcher of record tossing 4.2 innings. She struck out 5 but pitched around 7 free passes to Bulldog hitter. Ava DeNormandie came in to relieve and threw 2.1 innings. Piper Urbanski had a day at the plate. She finished 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Urbanski homered and doubled, and Emma Wilkins had 2 hits. The varsity game featured state ranked #6 Crown Point and state ranked #1 Lake Central. The game lived up to the hype: The Indians took over sole possession of 1st place in the DAC (5-0) with the 4-3 victory. Maddie Such was the winning pitcher; Such had a complete game effort and she struck out 7. LC really didn't get the bats going and ran themselves out of what could've been a huge 4th inning. Lexi Iwema added a solo shot as the Indians biggest offensive highlight. In the fourth, LC managed 5 consecutive baserunners: Jessy Del Toro singled, MaKayla Van Vossen singled, Iwema walked, Taylor Schafer singled, and Tegan Tripp singled. Izzy Calinski then hit a sac fly. LC scored 3 times during this fury. The Indians will host Valparaiso on Wednesday. Game time will be near 5:30pm.
