Girls' Track & Field Wins Hobart Sectional/Softball Wraps-Up 14-0 DAC Slate

Girls' Track and Field-IHSAA Sectional @ Hobart The Lake Central Girls' Track & Field team won their 31st IHSAA Sectional Championship last night, and this was their 6th in their last 7 attempts. The Indians finished first by nearly 40 points in the 11 team field. Also, highlighting the team victory was the individual effort in the discus of Delaney Oberholtzer. Oberholtzer broke the sectional record with an impressive throw of 144'3". The Indians had 8 Sectional Champions that advanced to the regional: The 4x800 team of Brynn Hayes, Chloe Neal, Lana Bruggeman, and Macey Thompson The 4x100 team of Naiomi Dilosa, Alina Williams, Keegan McLaughlin, and Aleena Navarro Macey Thompson in the 800 and 1600 Lana Bruggeman in the 3200 Delaney Oberholtzer in the discus--SECTIONAL RECORD Aleena Navarro in the 100 Sophia Palmer in the 300 hurdles Other advancing individuals for the Indians include: the 4x400 team of Brynn Hayes, Naiomi Dilosa, Sophia Palmer, and Macey Thompson ; Delaney Oberholtzer in the shot put; Emma Reyes in the discus; Chloe Neal in the 1600 and 3200; Brynn Hayes in the 800; Aleena Navarro in the 200; and Amelia Hecht in the long jump, 100 hurdles, and 300 hurdles. Varsity Softball @ Valparaiso LC 14 Valparaiso 7 Lake Central exploded to a 9-2 lead before the Vikings came storming back with a 5-run 4th inning to make it 9-7. The Indians responded with 5 unanswered in the final 3 frames. Taylor Schafer remained "en fuego" with the bat going a perfect 5-5 and driving in 6 with a homerun. Schafer has reached base in her last 11 plate appearances over the last 3 games and is 8-8 during the last 2 games. Madi Wainright had two hits including a solo shot. Kaitlyn Streiler added a pair of hits, and Tegan Tripp had two hits and drove in 2. Jada Lewis tossed the first 4 innings, and Maddie Such struck out 7 over the final 3 frames for the win. LC will enter the postseason at 26-3 and victors of the DAC at 14-0. The Indians will play the Munster Mustangs in the Crown Point Sectional on Thursday, May 29th. JV (White) Baseball vs Munster LC 10 Munster 12 This game featured a lightning delay, rain, and countless lead changes. The Mustangs eventually prevailed after a 4-run seventh to win. The Indians managed to scored 10 runs on 9 hits and they drew 8 free passes. Lazar Alavanja led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBIs; Benjamin Schultz and Malachi Weinum each had 2 hits and a double. The two teams will do it all over again this evening at Munster.
