Ben Perschon and Jacob White-Hutlser are DAC Champs The boys' track and field team took part in the Duneland Athletic Conference Championship yesterday evening. The team finished in 4th place overall but had some fantastic performances. Notably, Jacob White-Hutsler was the 200M champion, and Ben Perschon earned 2-1st place finishes in the 1600 and 3200M respectively. Lucca Neves was runner-up in both the 1600 and 3200. Timothy O'Brien finished in 2nd in the 800M. LC will look to improve upon these performances heading into next week's sectional at Crown Point. In the varsity game, Lexi Iwema blasted her 17th homerun and Madi Wainright clubbed her 11th. These were the 63rd and 64th homeruns hit by the Indians. LC passed Floyd Central and moved into 3rd place all-time in the state. They sit behind New Palestine's 69 homeruns and Shelbyville's 67. The Indians pitched by committee to beat the Pirates. Colbie Tressel was the winning pitcher, fanning 8 in her 3 innings of work. The Indians had 15 hits in their 5 innings of at bats. MaKayla Van Vossen, Madi Wainright, Lexi Iwema, Maddie Such, Emma Wilkins, and Piper Urbanski all had 2 hits. Tegan Tripp had 3. The Indians will now ready for their showdown with nationally ranked Marist on Saturday. The Indians are 13-0 in the DAC and 25-0 overall. Kensie Johnson pitched the JV to victory: Kensie tossed a no-hitter and struck out 13 in her complete game effort. LC had multi-hit performances from Parker Reddick, Addy Godoy, Kayla Scheuneman, and Zoe Salgado. Girls' Tennis Falls to 5-1 in DAC Play The girls' tennis team in their continued (from darkness) match from last week fell to DAC power Chesterton. The Indians are now in 2nd overall in the DAC. Baseball Drops Heartbreaker at Crown Point LC's record fell to 8-4 in the DAC and 14-6 overall in a tough road loss at Crown Point. The Indians couldn't hold onto a 4-run 6th inning lead and fell 9-8. Victor Villegas was the tough luck, pitcher of record. The Indians competed but couldn't survive 5 defensive miscues and 8 free passes. Andrew Brower had 3 hits and drove in a pair. Anthony Sanchez had 2 hits and drove in 2, and Villegas also added a pair of hits. LC, along with Munster and Crown Point, will host the Region Baseball Invite this weekend. The Indians will face off against Illiana Christian, Lafayette Harrison, and Highland over the course of the weekend. The JV Blue got revenge and beat Crown Point 7-6 in walk-off fashion on a single by Zachary Zimmerman. Riggens Roerdink and Evan Smith combined to pitch the winning effort. Smith earned the win. Hayden Becker and Zimmerman had 2 hits apiece.
