Varsity Volleyball--The boys traveled to the Munster Invitational on Saturday and had a great day. The Indians swept Munster, Bishop Noll Institute, and Hobart in pool play. Lake Central got a rematch against Illiana Christian in the Championship and lost in straight sets. LC lost 5-0 to Hamilton Southeastern. They fell 4-1 to Bloomington South; Andie Schultz was victorious at #2 singles. Muncie Burris defeated the Indians 3-2; Schultz was again victorious at 2 and Tatiana Marjanovich won at one singles. The highlight of the day was senior Bella Connelly begin honored with the Sportsmanship Award. This was a well deserved honor. Varsity Softball--Lake Central hosted Lafayette Harrison on Friday night. The Indians struck early and struck often en route to their 10-0, 5-inning victory over the top 10 opponent. Sofia Calderaro remained unbeaten throwing 5 innings and allowing just 4 hits. The usual customers Kate Renschen and Jolie Adams had 3 hits each. Renschen scored 3 runs while Adams drove in 2. Taylor Schafer and Jessy Del Toro had 2 RBIs each, and Izzy Calinski doubled twice. The Indians will host Lowell tonight and Chesterton tomorrow night (senior night). Varsity Baseball--Lake Central hosted Munster on Friday night in what was supposed to be the first scheduled night game in school history. The Indians cruised to an 11 run victory after putting up an 8-spot in the 3rd. Griffin Tobias, Josh Flores, and Alex Cuevas combined on the 5 inning shutout, allowing just 3 hits. Drew Arnold had 3 hits (2 2B) and drove in 4 to lead the offense. Tobias and Drew Kosteba each had a multi-hit game. On Saturday, Lake Central played host to Lincoln-Way Central. The Indians were tied at 3 through 6 innings and the visiting Knights put up 4 runs in the top of the 7th to win 7-3. Brendan Smith was the losing pitcher of record for Lake Central as he split the game with Blake Sivak (starter) and Collin Cirks (mid-relief). Smith and Kosteba each had 2 hits. Lake Central plays Chesterton on the road Tuesday and at home Wednesday. They'll look to remain near the top of the DAC. JV Baseball (Blue and White)--Both teams traveled to Lincoln-Way Central on Saturday. The JV Blue lost 12-4 in their contest. It was a tight game until the Knights scored 11 in the 6th. Ethan Chapman was sharp for 4 innings not allowing a run. Roman Garza, in middle relief, earned the decision for LC. Luke Moffitt had two hits as well as Drew Jakubowski. The JV White dropped both games to LWC. They lost a heartbreaker in game 1 5-4 in 8 innings. The second game they fell 1-0 in a shortened game. Ryan Mikolanis started game 1 and went 5 quality innings allowing one-unearned run. He also had 2 hits. Connor Friesema and Logan Barbush each tossed 2 innings in game 2. Isaac Ochoa had 2 hits, including a double. JV Softball--LC hosted the NCC/DAC Challenge on Saturday. Teams coming to town included Munster, Lowell, and Crown Point. LC played Lowell and defeated the Red Devils 13-5. The Indians had 11 EBH in the game. Piper Urbanski (2 3B), Sofia Beals (4 RBIs), Abigail Grenchik (2 3B), and Olivia Hurubean (winning pitcher) each had 3 hits. Teagan Tripp and Emma Wilkins each had 2 hits. Sophia Cembala started the game against Munster and tossed a 5-inning, 1-hit shutout over the Mustangs. She struck out 6. The Indians had 7 EBH in this one, including a Grenchik dinger. Piper Urbanski had 2 triples. Wilkins and Rylie Cruz each had mutli-hit efforts. Addison Doloszycki tripled in each game.
