Tennis Sectionals @ Munster vs. Munster: The girls season came to an end in the semi-final round of sectional play. The ladies were defeated in a very competitive match by the host Mustangs. Andie Schultz was victorious at #2 singles for the Indians. Munster 4 Lake Central 1 #1S: Claire Han (M) def Tatiana Marjanovich 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 #2S: Andie Schultz (LC) def Isabella Shin 6-3, 6-1 #3S: Shana Shah (M) def Bella Connelly 6-0, 6-2 #1D: Anne Marie Fuller / Tess Glombicki (M) def Charlotte Barnard / Lana Pesoli 6-4, 6-3 #2D: Elisabeth Kreig / Risha Panigrahi (M) def Delaney Delso / Tessa Murzyn 7-5, 6-1 Varsity Record: (8-11) / (Conference (3-4) JV Record: (11-4) / Conference (4-2) Girls' T/F Sectionals: Lake Central had to wait an extra day to officially earn their 31st team Sectional Championship. The Indians were dominant with 8-1st place finishes and several regional qualifiers. Several Lake Central teachers/staff members attended and were celebrated. The Indians were victorious 11-1 and ran their record to 28-0 overall and 14-0 in the DAC, earning them the outright DAC Championship. This sets up a showdown with one of Illinois' top dogs, Marist, on Friday. In this one, Maddie Wainright's 3-run bomb to right center, in her only at-bat, abruptly ended the game due to run rule. Sofia Caleraro was the winning pitcher tossing 4 innings. Maddie Such tossed 2. The dynamic duo combined to K 15 Valparaiso hitters (out of 18 outs). Kate Renschen and Taylor Schafer had 2 hit games. Varsity Baseball: Lake Central and Crown Point split the 2-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. This series was offensively challenged from both teams as a result of great pitching. Blake Sivak got the ball in game 1 and tossed a complete game allowing just 5 hits and one earned run. The Indians scored 2 in the second and got their insurance run in the bottom of the 6th to win 3-2. LC only had 3 hits on the game. Ryder Fernandez and Quinn O'Bryan each drove in a run. The second game Crown Point defeated Lake Central 3-2. This time Griffin Tobias was excellent on the mound working 6 innings and striking out 8, allowing just 1 earned run. He was super efficient throwing 69% strikes. Three Indians combined for all 6 LC hits: Nick Robinson, Drew Kosteba, and Luke Halfeldt. LC will travel east this weekend to play Northridge and NorthWood before wrapping up at home against Hanover Central Monday. JV Softball-On Tuesday, the Indians played Valparaiso and were victorious 12-0. Sophia Cembala was the winning pitcher striking out 8 over 4-hitless innings. LC pounded out 10 hits: Emma Wilkins, Piper Urbanski, and Sofia Beals had multi-hit games. On Wednesday, the Indians wrapped up their season finishing up 21-2 overall with a 15-8 victory over the host Hobart Brickies. Abigail Meseberg earned the win on the mound punching out 10 in 6 innings. Teagan Tripp led the way with 3 hits. Urbansi, Olivia Hurubean, Peyton Martin, and Abigail Grenchik each had 2 hits. Cembala hit her 1st HR of the year. JV Blue Baseball: LC hosted CP in a double-header on Wednesday after Tuesday's rain out. LC won the first 4-1 and lost the 2nd 7-0. In game 1, the Indians and Bulldogs were knotted up at 1 and Zach Nikola came to the plate with 2 on and 2 outs. Nikola was 0-2 on the day and got a 1st pitch breaking ball that he destroyed to left. This walk-off 3-run home run not only led the Indians to victory but secured the JV conference championship. Cam Reddick had 2 hits. Game 2 didn't go as planned. Roman Garza was the pitcher of record. LC could only muster 4 hits: Luke Moffitt doubled. JV White Baseball--Lake Central was defeating Crown Point in the 4th but the rains came and halted play. The two teams tried again Wednesday and Lake Central smoked the Bulldogs 18-10. LC had 11 hits and drew 17 free passes. Frankie Verta had 3 hits to lead the way. Connor Friesema, Alek Pohrte, and Marc Passo each had two hits. The Indians will host Homestead, Lafayette Harrison, and Munster in their own tournament on Saturday. Other Notables: Congratulations to wrestler CJ Briner for signing his NLI to Trine University. Congratulations to cheerleaders Carlie Gabler and Addison Black for signing their NLI to Purdue University Northwest to compete on the stunt team.
