Weekend Round-Up: Girls Golf Advances to the IHSAA Regional

Girls' Golf Sectional @ Palmira Golf & Country Club The defending Sectional and Regional Champions finished in second behind a hot Munster Mustangs team. LC shot an impressive 329 and came up just 8 strokes off Munster. Piper Urbanski was third medalist in the 46 girls field and Victoria Schilling was fifth. Urbanski shot a 79 and Schilling fired an 81. Allie Huppenthal shot an 82; Maya Parks shot an 87; and Alex Schilling shot a 93. The girls will tee off on Saturday between 8:50 and 9:30 trying to advance to the IHSAA State Finals. Saturday they'll play at Sandy Pines GC in Demotte. The Indians held off a 3rd set surge by Vikings to win the final set. The Tribe was led by Kailey Skurka with 16 kills and 5 digs; Lexi Iwema with 12 kills and 14 digs; Izzy Steliga with 22 assists; and Brook Barth with 14 digs. Boys' Tennis vs La Porte (Thursday Late Result) V--LC 3 La Porte 2 The victory put the Indians into sole possession of 2nd place in the DAC. Frank Verta led the way for the Indians on offense with 7 receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Cam Reddick tossed two touchdown passes and threw for nearly 200 yards; Reddick also led the ground attack with 49 yards. Lucas Embrey recovered a fumble for the Indians defense. The Indians are back in action against the Michigan City Wolves on Friday for the homecoming game. Ben Perschon finished 2nd overall, just behind the winner from Northridge. Ethen Gonzalez crossed next for LC in 58th place and Luka Manojlovic finished in 70th. The Lake Central girls cross country team took 2nd place at the New Prairie Invite. They were led by Macey Thompson who was runner-up and ran a time of 18:01. Chloe Neal placed 6th with a time of 19:00, Lana Bruggeman placed 7th with a time of 19:05 and Aubrey Neal placed 10th with a time of 19:34. The JV team placed 4th overall and were led by Alexa Neal who placed 3rd over all. Maddie Underwood placed 9th, Sofia Gellar placed 14th, Maddie Rivera placed 29th and Adrianna Stella placed 39th. Boys' Varsity Soccer @ Concord LC 1 Concord 1 LC battled the #9 ranked team to a 1-1 tie on the road on Saturday. George Karabatsos scored the lone goal for the Indians. LC will look to maintain the top spot in the DAC at home against Chesterton on Wednesday. Girls' JV/V Soccer vs Concord JV--LC 5 Concord 0 V--LC 8 Concord 0 JV White Soccer vs Valparaiso LC 3 Valparaiso 0 The JV White moved their record to 4-1-1 with a win at home over Valparaiso Monday night. Nikolas Josevski, Jacob Jagadich, and Jack Thompson scored goals. Josevski, Giancarlo Reyna, and Johnny Estrada each had an assist.
